NOVEL BL-2 PROCESSING SYSTEM FOR IMPROVING SAFETY OF FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE PRODUCTS

Objective

Complete the design, fabrication, installation, and validation of novel equipment for research on decontamination of fresh fruits and vegetables containing human pathogens, this processing system comprises washers, conveyors, sampling devices, a containment chamber, a steam decontamination system, and associated controls and plumbing. Conclude the direction and supervision of a graduate student, funded by ARS, who is completing doctoral research relating to the project.
