OPENING UP THE WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY FOR LIQUID MANURE APPLICATION IN NORTHERN, INCREASINGLY UNPREDICTABLE CLIMATES

Objective

Our main goal is to fine-tune the practice of sidedressing liquid manure as a nitrogen source in corn and then rapidly increase adoption of the practice through Extension education for manure users.More specifically, we aim to:Establish a stakeholder group to further refine our research questions and guide our educational effortsConduct on-farm and on-research-station experiments to inform the creation of a best management practices toolbox for sidedressing liquid manure into cornDevelop and deliver demonstration/educational experiences to increase awareness of equipment and techniques used for sidedressing manure by farmers and commercial manure applicatorsOver the long-term, farmers and commercial manure haulers will experience agronomic, economic, and environmental benefits by sidedressing liquid manure as a nutrient source in place of commercial inorganic fertilizers.
