Pesticide Safety Education Program

Objective

With the funds EPA has transferred to USDA in support of the state extension services Pesticide Safety Education Program (PMEP)via an Interagency Agreement (IAG), the Pesticide Management Education Program will train applicators to become certified and maintain certification to apply restricted-use pesticides consistent with the standards the Administrator prescribes.

Non-Technical Summary: <BR>Applicators of restricted use pesticides must certified to purchase or supervise their application. Pesticide Management Education Program trains applicators to become certified and maintain certification to apply restricted-use pesticides consistent with the standards the Administrator prescribes. Training is accomplished through presentations made in classroom settings, production of training materials, train-the-trainer programs, web site information pages, list serve information messaging service and On-line training courses. <P> Approach: <BR> Cornell will coordinate planning and execution of educational activities with the our State Lead Agency (SLA) the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Educational activities will include: presenting educational programs conducting hands-on training events developing and updating training/certification manuals developing training modules for course sponsors conducting train-the-trainer workshops developing and/or coordination re-certification education programs informing pesticide applicators of programs and materials though our listserve and web site conducting and managing on-line re-certification courses in the PMEP Distance Learning Center
