Prevalence of Resistance to Cephalosporin Antimicrobials among Salmonella & E. coli Isolates

Objective

The objective of this cooperative research project is to conduct and report a screening of minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of a total of 2000 Salmonella spp. and E. coli isolates selected from the NARMS cattle isolates received by the USDA-ARS Antimicrobial Resistance Research Unit in Athens, Georgia during the fiscal year 2001.

More information

ARS will test for antimicrobial resistance using 96 well custom made panels designed for use in the Sensititre tm System (Trek Diagnostics, Westlake, OH). Procedures will be conducted as per manufacturer's instructions. Isolates will be obtained from frozen stock cultures which are part of the ARRU culture collection. The sponsor will supply custom made cefquinome/cefepine sensititive plates for use in the study. Data will be summarized and presented as total number sensitive, intermediate, resistant as well as providing MIC value. Analysis will also be done to the serotype level.
