PRIDE OF THE PRAIRIE FOOD WASTE COMPOSTING PLAN

The planning grant will enable new initiatives to create compost from food waste and yard waste to enhance our gardens and orchards in historically underserved neighborhoods. The plan will assess the base flows of organic waste, including yard waste and food waste; valorize those waste streams; evaluate sites for an enhanced composting facility, including a large city-owned agriculture property; enhance composting partnerships within Macon County, Illinois; promote educational programs involving food waste and composting; and involve the community in shaping the plan.
