Priority Setting of Foodborne and Zoonotic Pathogens - An International Conference

Objective

The goal of the confernce is to promote progress in food safety priority setting by identifying key scientific issues and opportunities and forstering international scientific collaboration. The conference will provide an overview of current approaches used for ranking the public health impacts of foodborne and zoonotic diseases, including methods to integrate data on incidence of morbidity and mortality, attribution of illnesses to different sources of exposure, and social valuation of health outcomes.

Non-Technical Summary: A. The focus will be on public health problems in developed countries, but the possible impact of imported foods on public health can be discussed as well. B. The conference addresses all infectious agents, including bacterial toxins with acute effects. A. The conference will address both scientific issues as well as possibilities for international cooperation, and may also serve to raise awareness of the process of risk-based priority setting. B. The conference will not aim to set the priorities, but will discuss methods and data, including the identification of key data gaps. <P> Approach: The conference will focus on key conceptual issues and data gaps and on exploring opportunities for international collaboration
