Human colonic epithelial cells respond to Campylobacter jejuni by activation of the transcription factor NF-kB to induce innate immunity and switch on pro-inflammatory cytokines. C. jejuni cell components stable to heat treatment constitute a potent activator of NF-kB leading to the efficient induction of cytokines/chemokines including interleukin-8. <P>
We propose to characterise the bioactive components of Campylobacters and examine human gut epithelial cell responses to these products.
