PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN HYDROPONICS, AQUAPONICS AND METAGENOMICS TO ENHANCE RESEARCH AND TEACHING IN FOOD SAFETY

Objective

The overall goal of this project is to enhance the PD's skills and knowledge in hydroponics, aquaponics, metagenomics/bioinformatics and phytonutrient analysis. The specific objectives are:a) update and develop upper level courses; b) plan for a metagenomics/bioinformatics short course/workshop for students, faculty, technicians; and c) investigate the microbiomes and phytonutrient profiles of lettuce (Lactua sativa L.; Salanova®) in these systems.
