Replacement of obsolete FT-IR and GC-MS in Analytical Laboratory of Food, Soils and Environmental Chemistry (ALSFEC)

Objective

(1) Replace obsolete Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy systems.(2) provide interdisciplinary research training experiences to develop the analytical and critical thinking needed to solve modern agricultural problems to ensure a sustainable improvement of the local and national food supply; (3) offer up-to-date symposium, workshops, seminars and hand-on training to (Food Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR) students in the latest techniques for the analysis of food, soils and water analysis. (4) establish new interdisciplinary collaborations between different faculties at UPRM and the private sector; (5) foster interdisciplinary research activities including between FANR students, faculty and the private sector, (6) empower participating faculty and investigators to ensure their competitiveness by involving them in meaningful collaborative research projects related to wastewater treatment and reuse for agricultural sustainability.
