Review of Extraction Methods for Additives from Complex Food Matrices

Objective

Approaches to be taken will be:

to survey public analysts, commercial and industry labs to determine where the real gaps are regarding extraction of additives, by means of a written questionnaire
to review published literature using in-house and external databases, to consult LFI analytical staff for alternative extraction methods that have not yet been applied to additives, to use LFI knowledge of new technologies to evaluate their suitability for additive extraction and to ask labs surveyed in the previous point about any unpublished in-house techniques they have developed.
to prepare a position paper
to disseminate information gathered

More information

The FSA requires methods for the accurate measurement of additives in foods, but this is often hindered by difficulties in quantative extraction of additives. The aim of this project is to review current knowledge of the extraction of additives and to suggest possible future approaches.
