Role of Secreted/Outer Proteins in Immunity to Salmonella

Objective

This project focuses on the identification of extracellular/secreted proteins of Salmonella recognised by the immune response elicited by live vaccines, following our findings on responses to these proteins in mice. We will concentrate on identification of secreted proteins recognised by antibodies and T cells (especially CD4+) in protective CMI so as to pinpoint the antigens important in protection, and the possible role of CMI in determining the specificity of protection conferred by live vaccines. <P>
Cytotoxic responses are the subject of another BBSRC project. The long term aim shared by the two projects is to understand the mechanisms of immunity to Salmonella so as to enable the rational development of effective salmonella vaccines.
