This office shall provide to the research community and the general public information on publicly funded, and to the maximum extent practicable, privately funded food safety research initiatives for the purpose of A) preventing unintended duplication of food safety research and B) assisting the executive and legislative branches of the Federal Government and private research entities to assess food safety needs as appropriate.
Determine the location and content of government food safety research-related databases through interaction with ARS, FSIS, EPA, CDC, FDA, etc. Appropriate databases will contain information on research priorities, projects and fundings. Develop a World Wide Web assessible web site that provides inormation on the nature of the content (priorities, project description, findings, etc) and method to access those databases. Expand the database described above to include information from private research entities. Develop methods to ensure that there is an awareness of the service described above ncluding presentations at scientific and other food safety related meetings.
