By 2050, the growth of the global population will lead to a 50 % increase in food production to meet the needs for food, feed and biofuels. However, today's grain production is below the needs of the world's population since there is a lack of new systems for smart exploitation of soil, time and resources. The EU-funded SAAT2020 project is based on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology platform that offers bioinformatics about genetics and the environment. The solution is driven by AI algorithms concluding in a smart data-driven crop production system and helps medium-size family farms to select more productive crops. The project envisages more sustainable agriculture that will support the EU's competitiveness worldwide.
