Survival of Pathogens in Food Processing Environments.

Objective

The study of the colonization, growth and survival of microbial pathogens in biofilms leading to a fuller understanding of this process in food processing environments and improved eradication methods.

To use different continuous culture systems for the preparation of multispecies microbial biofilms containing pathogenic microorganisms.

To develop microscopic methods to visualize, identify, and quantify pathogenic microorganisms within biofilms.

To study the influence of different ecological factors on the survival of microbial pathogens in biofilms.
