Systems to Disinfect Soil with Heat for Flower and Strawberry Production

Objective

Evaluate solarization combined with steam soil disinfestation to control soil pathogens, nematodes, and weeds.
Evaluate crop yield and quality, resulting from soil disinfestation with heat.
Demonstrate the combination of solarization and steam soil disinfestation technique to growers in commercial fields.

More information

APPROACH: Field trials will be conducted in cooperation with a commercial cut flower producer. Treatments will be selected based on efficacy results in California trials. Cut flower trials will be established for both fall and spring production cycles to determine feasibility of heating soil with different initial soil temperatures.
