Non-Technical Summary:
Pesticides improperly applied, stored, disposed of, or transported can pose a significant risk to the public, the environment, and wildlife. As the population grows and becomes more ubanized, misuse incidents continue to rise. Pesticide Safety Education Programs (PSEP) Nationally, and particularly in Texas, play a major role in providing educational programs, materials and activities to mitigate pesticide misuse. The outcomes of PSEP in Texas will facilitate licensed applicators and non-licensed applicators compliance with federal and state laws governing pesticide use. In addition, the outreach activities and educational materials will better prepare pesticide users to adopt and utilize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Best Management Practices (BMPs) to manage pest problems.
Approach:
The educational programs will be developed in cooperation with unit and departmental subject matter specialists. Outreach activities will be conducted in group, online, and individual training sessions.
