Extension faculty will continue to provide culturally appropriate community education on the UTTC campus as well as the Tribal communities they serve. Through collaboration with the UTTC Wellnes Circle, they will identify needs and strategies necessary to promote healthier lifestyles among the audience they serve. This work will be accomplished through collaborative efforts with NDSU Extension Service. Currently, the UTTC Extension Coordinator serves on the North Dakota Healthy Weight Council and the USDA National Cooperative Extension Childhood Obesity Leadership Team. These external collaborative efforts assist the UTTC Extension Program staff with program development by providing the latest obesity research, statistics, information, and training. Partnership in the Healthy Weight Council include the North Dakota Department of Health, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, County Extension Services, and representation from private medical providers. Partnerships in the USDA National Cooperative Extension Childhood Obesity Leadership Team included 1862 and 1890 Land Grant Universities. Another important linkage has been established with North Dakota Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. Internal partnerships within the UTTC campus community are provided through membership in the Wellness Circle, which is comprised of programs such as Theodore Jamerson Elementary School, Center for Student Success, and Student Health. The UTTC Extension Program emphasizes proper nutrition, being physically active, and maintaining a healthy weight by promoting the historical and cultural teachings of the relationship between Native people and the buffalo.
