Veterinarian HACCP Training Program for Reducing On-Farm Foodborne Pathogens

Objective

An education program is proposed for veterinarians that will enable them to train food animal producers in HACCP systems to control occurrence of food borne pathogens that could cause human illness.

More information

Training will include the novel use of low cost environmentally safe fluorescent dyes to identify production practices that increase risk of spreading contamination and microbial testing to monitor the effectiveness of the HACCP plans that are developed. The training program will be evaluated by observing changes in the attitudes and practices of the producers and by measuring pathogen loads at the farm before and after initiating a HAACP system.
