WC1 HYBRID CO-RECEPTOR/PATTERN RECOGNITION RECEPTOR IN THE IMMUNE RESPONSE TO PATHOGENS OF DOMESTICATED ANIMALS

Objective

Our overarching goal is to identify variation in WC1 SRCR domains that either bind, or do not bind to important livestock pathogens that have co-evolved with the host, and to identify variation in WC1 cytoplasmic domains that affect signaling capacity. Identification of these variants will give insight into the role of WC1 in the immune response to pathogens which would inform vaccine design and into possible genetic selection targets. Objective 1 Determine the signaling and endocytic capacity of cytoplasmic domain sequences lacking key motifsObjective 2 Determine the gd T cell activation potential of splice and sequence variants coding for the extracellular region of WC1
