GoalTo write an accessible book about the use of models, both conceptual and computational,to understand the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of food system sustainability. The purpose of this book,entitledFood Systems Modeling, is to decipher what models can teach us.ObjectivesIn pursuit of the overall goal, we propose to hold a workshop that will help the contributors to this multi-author volume meet three objectives:(1) To expand their understanding of modeling approaches used in other disciplines,(2) To develop a common vision for the book, and(3) To identify and begin to resolve the challenges of communicating the results of modeling to a broad audience.
