Quartermaster Corps Front Royal Remount Station Photographs
The collection consists of 106 black and white photographs taken during winter of 1941 at the United States Army Remount Station in Front Royal, Virginia (operated by the Quartermaster Corps). The photographs are captioned and illustrate the process by which the Army cared for and trained animals toward the end of the era of the United States Army Remount Service.113 Items

Description: Clearing snow from grease rack- Motor Transportation Section.
Grain arriving via truck
Description: All grain is weighed upon arrival at the Depot. Grain is issued to the various stables by weight. Each stable must make a requisition to the Quartermaster for grain needed.
Granary
Description: All grain is centrally stored in the granary and issued from here to the various stables undeer supervision of the Quartermaster.
Temporary hay ricks
Description: When permanent forage shelter facilities are exhausted then temporary hay ricks are constructed. Large tarpaulins are used to protect forage from weather conditions.
Inspecting forage
Description: A Veterinary Officer inspecting forage. Hay which is hot, wet, musty, moldy, caked, badly weathered or stained is not acceptable.
Transporting forage
Description: Forage is usually transported to the Depot on trucks. A bale of hay from each load is opened and carefully inspected by a Veterinary Officer.
