Current therapeutic options to treat patients infected with toxin-producing bacteria are limited.

  17. Determinants of Knowledge and Biosecurity Preventive Behaviors for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Risk Among Chinese Poultry Farmers

    • Avian Diseases
    • Biosecurity measures are the first line of defense against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on farms. It is generally recognized that an individual's behavior can be influenced by the knowledge they possess. However, empirical study has not reported an association between poultry producers' awareness of HPAI symptoms and their actual biosecurity actions.

    • Toxins
    • Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) is responsible for causing the gastrointestinal symptoms of several C. perfringens food- and nonfood-borne human gastrointestinal diseases. The enterotoxin gene (cpe) is located on either the chromosome (for most C. perfringens type A food poisoning strains) or large conjugative plasmids (for the remaining type A food poisoning and most, if not all, other CPE-producing strains).

  25. Prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in seafood products from hypermarkets in Shanghai

    • Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture
    • Abstract

      BACKGROUND

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an important gastroenteritis pathogen contaminating seafood in China. In this study, a total of 992 seafood samples from major hypermarkets in Shanghai were monitored for prevalence and burden of V. parahaemolyticus from January 2011 to December 2012. Additionally, appropriate probability distribution for describing V. parahaemolyticus concentrations was investigated based on these surveillance data.
